That's the secret

Oft times, you might despair at your own inadequacies and wonder about the injustices of life. I believe that it was Spencer W. Kimball who said, "Work, work work. There is no satisfactory substitute." Although I wasn't engaged in missionary work per se, today I felt the rewards of work and right now, in the words of Incubus, "I am happy."

thanks for this post! as a workaholic, i can appreciate anyone who encourages a working spirit.

and ps, it was Gordon B. Hinckley:

"Every missionary ought to come to realize that work, work, work is the key to getting things done, the key to success in life. There is no substitute for work, for getting up in the morning and getting at it and staying with it to get the job done. I don’t know of a greater asset for whatever lies ahead in life than the capacity to discipline oneself to work. "

We were both wrong. It's Ezra Taft Benson. Check it out: One of the the greatest secrets of missionary work is work. If a missionary works, he will get the Spirit; if he gets the Spirit; and if he teaches by the Spirit, he will touch the hearts of the people; and he will be happy. There will no homesickness, no worrying about families, for all time, talents and interests are centered on the work of the ministry. That's the secret- Work, work, work. There is no satisfactory substitute, especially in missonary work." President Ezra Taft Benson
Although back in the day, I knew this little quote in a different language.

ok! i have another one. i was going over mayor bloomberg's speech from my commencement:
"The world is build around hard work. Success is a measure of hard work. And while luck certainly plays a part in success, you will notice that the harder you work, the luckier you'll get. And so if you really want to share in the great American dream, and have the great things, and really have a smile on your face, work hard, but make sure that you enjoy it."

i also remember reading something similar in 2 thesselonians. paul talking about work (3:10-13ish)

Well since working leads eventually to money (if we are talking about professional work), I thought I might share a related quote about money. I don't know where this comes from, it's certainly not from a general authority.

Anybody who says money is the root of all evil, doesn't have it! Money can't buy happiness? Look at the smile on my face. Ear to ear, baby. You wanna hear details? I drive a Ferrari 355 cabriolet.
